People want to climb Mount Everest because it's the highest mountain in the world. Climbing Mount Everest is a difficult challenge. The summit is a very dangerous place. It's is very cold and windy. There isn't much oxygen in the air. No plants and animals can live there. It's also difficult for people to be there. They can't stay on the summit for a long time.
Despite the danger, many people try to climb mount Everest. Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norway were the first people to reach the summit. Edmud Hillary was from New Zealand. Tenzing Norway grew up near Mount Everest. He tried to reach the top several times, but he failed. Finally, on May 29, 1953, he climbed to the summit with Edmund Hillary. This achievement made Hillary and Norway famous all around the world. Since then, many other climbers have reached the summit, but many others have failed.
