The Electric Vehicle Revolution: Realistic or Optimistic?
Electric vehicles have become a global trend, with major car manufacturers like Tesla leading the
way. However, less developed countries, such as South Africa, are making progress, with sales
representing less than 1% of the total. Latin American countries, such as Colombia, are
transitioning towards electric vehicles, while Russia's conflict in Ukraine stopped imports,
leading
to a minor local production of electric vehicles. In India, the govemment is encouraging the
purchase of electric vehicles through tax exemptions and other benefits. As electric cars gain
market share, the question arises whether the world is ready to phase out petrol-driven vehicles
within the next thirty years and if electric vehicles are the sustainable answer to transport needs
for the latter half of the century. Unfortunately, the answer to both questions is negative.
