Practical Exam Description - Page02
JC Central Co., Ltd. is a leader in wholesale clothing accessories and other consuming
products in Thailand with more than 60 years of experience. JC Central is promoting
investment in the retail sector in the Vietnamese market through acquisitions of
supermarkets, such as Metro, Big C...
After purchasing new supermarkets, JC Central needs to integrate the management
systems of these supermarkets into the company's system. When integrating the systems
of supermarkets, many problems and difficulties arise because the company's old system
lacks openness and implemented on legacy platform. Therefore, JC Central's management
board decided that it was necessary to develop a new warehouse management system
called WMS. The WMS new system needs to meet the current requirements. It should
support for store manager (SM) to maintain a detailed catalog of all products, including
categories, brands, prices, and stock-keeping units (SKUS). He/she also tracks and updates
stock levels in real-time, adjusting for new inventory, sales, returns, and damaged goods.
To support the company's just-in-time inventory management strategy, WMS must allow
SM to set thresholds for minimum stock levels and automatically generate purchase
orders when inventory runs low. The system track perishable items by expiry dates,
issuing alerts for soon-to-expire products.
For cashier, the software should provide capability to support fast and accurate billing
at checkout, including barcode scanning, automatic price calculation, and discounts. WMS
allows cashier to select multiple payment methods, including cash, credit/debit cards,
mobile payments, and gift cards.
For sale man, the software should allow to maintain a database of all suppliers,
including contact information, payment terms, and historical orders. He/she can create,
track, and manage purchase orders for inventory restocking, with status updates for
pending, received, or canceled orders.
For managers and management board, WMS should allow them to create sales and
inventory reports e.g: Generate daily, weekly, monthly, and annual sales reports to analyze
trends and performance. They can also track revenues, profits, expenses, and other
financial metrics for accounting purposes.
In additional, the WMS should handle large volumes of data and transactions
smoothly, especially during peak hours, use less resources, and minimize response time
at checkout to ensure efficient service. The company continue growing strategy so that the
software should be scalable, allowing for the addition of new products, categories, or even
new store locations if needed. The software should support for users using different
languages and its interface should be user-friendly and intuitive for quick adoption by
employees with minimal training. WMS should ensure high reliability, as software
downtime directly impacts sales and operations and implement robust backup and
recovery solutions to prevent data loss.
The WMS project is a new development project and have many stakeholders. With the
current resources of the JC Central's Software Development (SD) department, the JC
Central's Board of Directors (BOD) planned that the project will be outsource for the
experienced software development company. In the BOD's meeting, managers of other
JC Central's departments commit to assign employees to support the project but they can
spend 1 day/week to work with the development team due to heavy workload of operating
tasks. The new version of WMS is very important so JC Central's BOD expects that the
1st version should be ready within 6 months and the full version of the WMS system must
be completed within 12 months.
