2 ast - are working together to plant a Great Green Wall of trees 4,650 miles [7,600 kilometers]across the continent. However, planting trees is expensive, so scientists are working on other solutions. One idea is to create artificial leaves. These will not only remove more CO2 from the air than regular leaves but also tum the CO2 into a useful fuel.
PARAGRAPH 4. Like CO2, plastic needs to be removed from the environment. One clever approach involves using a machine that creates bubbles at the bottom of a river. As they rise, the bubbles push waste plastic to one side of the river where it can easily be collected. Tests show that the bubbles work effectively and are no danger to fish or other creatures in the water. In theory, the same technology could also be used to clean up our oceans. Scientists are also developing ways to deal with plastic after it has been collected. One group found bacteria that can eat plastic and get energy from it. The scientists hope that within a few years, these bacteria will make it possible to recycle plastic completely.
PARAGRAPH 5. Will these thoughtful, inventive ideas help us? There is no guarantee that they will all be effective solutions, but some of them will surely work. And hundreds of thousands of smart people are working on other ideas, too, so there's every reason to hope that the current climate crisis may soon become a climate celebration.
